Author’s Reflection
“Baby Boy”
“Baby Boy” was written for the child inside me who was hurt by someone he should have been able to trust. This song speaks from a wound that is hard to explain — the pain of being molested by a priest, someone who was supposed to represent safety, faith, and protection. Instead, that trust was broken, and the damage followed me long after the moment was over.
This song is not just about what happened. It is about what it did to me. It is about the confusion, the shame, the silence, and the way a child can carry pain that was never his fault. “Baby Boy” gives a voice to the younger version of me who did not know how to speak, who did not understand why it happened, and who deserved to be protected.
Writing this song was my way of reaching back to him and saying, “I believe you. I see you. You did nothing wrong.” The shame never belonged to that baby boy. It belonged to the person who used power, religion, and trust to cause harm.
“Baby Boy” is painful, but it is also an act of love. It is me holding that younger part of myself with compassion instead of blame. It is me refusing to keep the secret quiet just because the truth makes people uncomfortable.
This song is for every survivor who had their innocence stolen and was left to carry the weight alone. It is a reminder that the child was never guilty. The child was never dirty. The child was never responsible.
The baby boy deserved love. He deserved safety. He deserved protection. And through this song, I finally give him the voice he was denied.
