Author’s Reflection
“Summer”
“Summer” was written as a dedication to my best friend, Summer L. — someone who understands parts of my life in a way not everyone can. There are some people who do not just listen to your pain; they recognize it because they have walked through something similar themselves. Summer is one of those people for me.
This song comes from the bond we share through struggle, survival, and understanding. We have gone through some of the same conditions, carried some of the same weight, and faced parts of life that made us both stronger than we ever should have had to be. There is a comfort in having someone who does not need every wound explained because they already understand what it feels like to hurt and keep going.
For me, “Summer” is about friendship, trust, and belief. Summer believes in me, even in moments when I have trouble believing in myself. She sees something in me. She trusts me. She supports me. And that kind of friendship is rare. It is not surface-level. It is not just laughter and good days. It is the kind of friendship that stands through pain, uncertainty, and healing.
Writing this song gave me a way to honor her heart and what her presence means in my life. She has been more than a friend. She has been encouragement, understanding, and proof that sometimes people come into your life not to fix everything, but to remind you that you are not walking alone.
“Summer” is for the friend who stayed, the friend who believed, and the friend who understood the battle without needing me to dress it up. It is for the kind of connection that helps you feel seen, trusted, and supported in a world that can often feel cold.
This song is my thank-you to Summer L. — for believing in me, trusting me, and walking beside me through the hard parts of life.
Some friendships are light.
Some friendships are shelter.
And Summer has been both.
